Songs about being made of wood.
Kevin Capehart is a singer-songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina. His songs sit in the space where country folk meets acoustic americana — quiet melodies, plainspoken language, and lyrics that keep circling the question of who we grow into.
Kevin writes at the edges of country, folk, and songwriter traditions. His debut full-length, Existential Sound, arrived in April 2025 — ten tracks recorded independently and released through Bandcamp. It's a record about being the same species as the thing you're trying to become: songs called Chasing Foxes, Predestiny, and Old, Not Grown, all built from acoustic guitar, plainspoken vocals, and the sort of restraint that lets a lyric breathe.
Before the album, Kevin was already showing up in Charlotte's living-room concert scene — the low-lit, warmly-recorded intimate series that the city runs so well.
“My heart is like a Carolina pine; it sways in the wind, but it grows just fine.”— Among the Trees
In December 2023, he performed a five-song set for Tiny Stage Concerts, a series that captures Charlotte and touring songwriters in unadorned single-take sessions. His entry — nineteen minutes of solo acoustic guitar — introduced audiences to Grace, To Hell I Will Go, Pre-destiny, Old, Not Grown, and Chasing Foxes: several of the songs that would later find studio homes on Existential Sound.
The following spring, in April 2024, he was invited onto Cozy Couch Concerts — Charlotte's living-room video series — where he performed a then-unreleased original called Among the Trees. That single became a doorway into the run of releases that followed: the Back Porch single in May 2024, the full Existential Sound LP in April 2025, and the newest single, Her Way, in the summer of 2026.
His songs sound like they were written on a wooden chair. That's not an accident.
